DICHROIC GLASS ART

BY MICHAEL RAY

Meet the Artist

Michael Ray, creator and owner of Mod Marble Glass, is a flamework artist who specializes in Dichroic Vortex Marbles and Sculptures. A Bay Area native, but Oregon grown creator, Michael has been innovating with his glasswork since the early 2000s. He became immersed in the burgeoning, borosilicate glassblowing scene, that sprouted from his hometown of Eugene Oregon. An area now nationally recognized as the the epicenter and roots of the contemporary glass blowing movement. Michael took to glassblowing quite naturally and over the course of his career, he has perfected his craft and become set apart. Now a well known artist from the Pacific Northwest, Michael Ray is considered to be one of the most talented dichroic flameworking glass artists in the country. His colorful and expressive pieces can be found in galleries coast to coast. Today, Michael quite possibly makes and sells more sea turtle sculptures than any other glassblower in the country.

Marbles

With Michael’s online presence through his Etsy store, he has sold vortex marbles to marble collectors across the globe, in addition he is already considered one of the finer vortex marble makers in the country. Michael sells marbles along side his turtle pieces in all his galleries and the dichroic vortex marble was his first glass art passion before branching out into sea life sculptures. Marbles remain a staple in his ever-growing line of contemporary glassworks and his use of dichroic glass, tight stringer lines and symmetry set his vortex marbles apart as some of the very best in the country
